Do the work, step by step
- Choose one hypothesis, a primary metric with a precise denominator, and guardrails. Example: clarify the booking CTA to improve confirmed bookings per eligible randomized visitor, without increasing cancellations.
- With an analyst, set the randomization unit, eligibility, exposure logging, minimum detectable effect, sample size, duration and analysis method before launch. A fixed-horizon test and a sequential test require different stopping rules.
- Ask AI to propose controlled variants and QA cases. Verify event delivery, deduplication, assignment persistence and expected allocation. Investigate sample-ratio mismatch before interpreting outcome differences.
- Analyze only after the planned rule is met. Use validated statistical software and review uncertainty, guardrails and practical impact. Report inconclusive results honestly; AI-written narratives and synthetic users are not experiment data.
A prompt to adapt
Replace the bracketed inputs with your own context. Copy this prompt into your chosen tool.
Draft an A/B experiment brief for [hypothesis]. Specify primary metric and denominator, guardrails, randomization unit, eligibility, exposure events, QA checks, sample-size inputs and stopping rule. Flag missing baseline and traffic data instead of inventing them. Suggest one focused variant. Do not calculate significance without valid observed data and a stated method.
Your practice assignment
Write an experiment brief for booking CTA copy. If the site lacks sufficient traffic, use qualitative usability sessions to investigate comprehension first; do not claim they measure causal conversion lift.
Review checkpoint
A fictional example: 100/1000 versus 120/1000 is 10% versus 12%, a 2-percentage-point or 20% relative difference. These counts alone do not establish a trustworthy winner. Check design, uncertainty and data quality.
